5 Reasons Why You Should Get Facials More Often (Hand & Stone Spa)

I use to think of facials as something that was a luxury. I never thought that facials were “necessary” for your skin so I never got them often. Recently, I went to Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa and got a facial.

Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa:

  • lots of locations
  • very clean and aesthetically pleasing spa
  • my esthetician was super friendly & informative
  • relaxing environment
  • great skincare products & process
  • the best facial massage ever!!!

I have been to Hand & Stone spa for massages (multiple times) but this was my first facial there and it was great. I definitely recommend the spa.

After a long winter, my skin really needed it. Since I’ve gotten the facial my skin has continued to improve; it’s more clear, smooth, and feels less tight. I will never go that long without a facial again!

5 Reasons Why You Should Get Facials More Often

1.Cleans Impurities: Facials will get rid of blackheads, oily build-up and debris, and clogged pores. This allows your skin to breathe again and will make your skin look better and healthier, and will reduce the number of breakouts that you get.

2. Changing of Seasons: As the season’s change, our skin has different needs. Depending on the temperature, humidity level, and hours of sunlight our skin might require more or less attention. In the winter, our skin may become drier and in the summer our skin may become oiler. Receiving a facial after a long winter helped my skin feel fresh, clean, and ready for spring.

3. Slows the Aging Process: Getting a facial regularly will help slow the aging process because a facial massage stimulates the circulation of blood toward the skin and stimulates cell growth. This makes your skin more resistant to sagging and wrinkling.

4. Professional Evaluation: One of my favourite things about getting a facial is hearing feedback on what your skin needs or is lacking from the professional esthetician. At Hand & Stone, the esthetician recommended that I double the amount of water that I am drinking, switch to a water-based moisturizer, and make sure that I cleanse and moisturize my neck too.

5. Great Results: Since I received a facial two weeks ago, my skin has never felt better. It looks more clear, smooth, and it feels less tight. Facials can be a great way to clear up a breakout and get your skin looking great again.

Those are just 5 of the reasons why you should get a facial more often, there are so many others!

I hope that you enjoyed this post and I’m curious, how often do you get facials?

8 Ways To Spruce Up Your Workspace

Your environment affects you more than you think and that is why it is so important to make sure that you are surrounded by things that you love. However, this may be hard if you work in an office and sit in a cubicle for 8 hours a day.

I am going to share 8 different ways that you can spruce up your space, whether you work in an office or at home. Let’s begin!

8 Ways To Spruce Up Your Workspace

  1. Get a plant:

This is one of my favourite things to do to spruce up any space! Adding a pop of green to a room just makes it feel that much more alive. Getting a real plant will also give you an extra little task of watering it which will be a nice productive habit that you can check off your to-list daily.

This is an easy and fairly inexpensive way to spruce up your workspace so try it out! Succulents are a great choice because they don’t need much care and they don’t have pollen.

2. Hang up some pictures or a vision board:

Hang up some pictures of your loved ones, motivational quotes, places that you have travelled to, or places that you want to travel to. I also recommend making a little vision board of things that you want to attract in your life. If you are saving up for a car, print a picture of the car that you want. If you are saving for a trip, print a picture of the country that you want to go to.

This will help you stay motivated throughout your work day and it will help make your cubicle look nicer and less bland! Also, change your desktop screensaver to something that makes you smile.

3. Get a nice calendar:

Get a nice calendar that has either pictures or words that make you happy. Having a calendar hung up is a great way to mark off your days off, holidays, or any other special events. It’s always nice to look forward to special events!

4. Invest in some nice pens or notebooks:

Typically, your work will only offer you very simple pens and notebooks so it’s nice to invest in some higher quality versions! Buying some colourful pens and aesthetically pleasing notebooks will motivate you to want to do your work.

Although this may seem like such a small change, it might affect you greatly!

5. Invest in a mousepad or keyboard cover:

Investing in a fun mousepad design or marble keyboard cover will really spruce up your office space. I got a marble keyboard cover for my laptop and it makes it feel brand new! So if you are sick of looking at your boring computer then spruce up your mousepad and get a nice keyboard cover!

6. Bring a mug and coaster to work:

Bringing a mug and coaster to work will make you feel more comfortable and more at home. Every time you want a coffee or tea you can fill up your favourite mug and feel happier. It will also spruce up your office space since it sits on your desk all day.

7. Get a lamp:

If the lighting in your cubicle sucks, then bring in a lamp. This doesn’t need to be super expensive but good lighting can really liven up your office space and make you work better!

8. Get a day-to-day calendar:

Get a themed calendar such as “You are bad ass day-to-day calendar” or “A Happier 2018 Page-A-Day calendar” by Gretchen Rubin. They are both great options for daily calendars! I have one on my desk and it is fun to read a page every single day.

Those are 8 of my favourite ways to spruce up your office space, whether you work in an office or at home. Let me know how you like to decorate your workspace!

10 Ways To Beat The Winter Blues

We are in that mid-winter slump where winter blues are really starting to kick in for a lot of people, including me. Spring still seems so far away and it can be depressing at times. Most of us are done with winter and are ready to ditch our bulky winter jackets. But, unfortunately, we will need to be patient and ride the rest of winter out.

I am here to help you beat the winter blues with 10 of my favourite tips!

10 Ways To Beat The Winter Blues

  1. Start & End your day with gratitude: Right when you wake up either say/write down 5 things that you are grateful for. Then before you go to sleep say another 5 things that you grateful for that happened in your day.

This is a great way to make you feel more positive, happy, and grateful for your daily life. It will counteract your winter blues. You can say things like, I am grateful for the delicious dinner I had. I am grateful for my friend buying me a coffee. I am grateful for that amazing book that I am reading and so on.

2. Call someone: If I am feeling a bit down I like to call a friend or family member. This will not only distract your mind but it will also be nice to interact with a loved one.

3. Stay busy: You don’t need to go out every night after work but make some plans throughout the week. Plan having coffee with a friend and going to a workout class. The more that you stay busy, the less time that you will have to think about how much winter sucks.

4. Spruce up your space: Whether you want to spruce up your office, bedroom, or your kitchen is up to you. Buy some new decor or rearrange your furniture to make your environment feel more alive. Adding a plant to your house is a great way to spruce up your space!

5. Meditate & Do Yoga: I have preached about both of these topics before but I honestly think that they are both great ways to combat anxiety and depression. So hop on the wagon already!

6. Start a new hobby: If there is something that you have always wanted to learn then there’s no better time to start learning it then the winter time! In the winter, people tend to have more free time,  so take up a new hobby. This will help you look forward to doing something at night and on the weekends.

7. Plan your next trip: When spring and summer feel so far away it’s a great idea to start planning your next trip or getaway (even if your trip is a long while away). This helps you feel excited about the future and gives you something to look forward to.

8. Start a new tv series: Although I don’t recommend being a couch potato every night, I find starting a new tv series to be exciting. Winter is all about staying in and cuddling up by the fireplace so find a friend or significant other and start watching a new tv series. This will give you something to look forward to at night.

I also find that in the summer I feel more guilty for spending time on the couch so winter is the perfect time to spend a little more time watching tv.

9. Take Vitamin D: I started taking vitamin D drops years ago. You can take them all year round but just up your dose of drops in the winter months!

10. Open the blinds: When you wake up in the morning open your blinds in your house. This will instantly make you feel more awake and alive by bringing sunlight in. In the winter, you need all the sunlight that you can get! (Also, it’s nice to come home to light in your house).

Those are 10 of my favourite tips to help you beat the winter blues. Let me know what you do to beat the winter blues in the comments!

5. A DIY Gift: 5 Senses

I think that a DIY gift is always a great gift idea for your significant other. It shows that you put a lot of time, thought, and effort into making them something personal.

The 5 senses gift idea is a very popular one. You either make/ buy 5 different gifts that fulfil each of the 5 senses: taste, see, hear, touch, and smell. You need to get creative with this one but it will be so worth it!

8 Things To Do This Winter In Toronto

Summertime is my favourite time of the year. I love going to the beach, drinking on patios, and enjoying the warm sun of my face. But, instead of waiting around for summer I still like to make the best of every season. So let’s find out what you can do this winter in Toronto!

8 Things To Do This Winter In Toronto:

1. Go to a food/drink festival:

There are lots of food/drink festivals during the winter months (January- March). I love going to festivals all year round. Here are some festivals that are coming up!

Winterlicious: January 26- February 8 (I am going to Casa Loma High Tea)

Toronto Tea Festival– February 2-4

Toronto Winter Brewfest– March 2-3 (I can’t wait!)

2. Go to a comedy show:

Again, this is something that you can do all year round but its perfect to do during the winter months. During the winter, everybody could use some extra humour. I like going to Yuk Yuks or Second City. This is also a great date night idea.

3. Go to a brewery or wine bar:

Even though this is something that you might like to do in the summer months; a lot of breweries and wineries have indoor seating where you can go and have drinks & food. This is definitely something that makes winter weekends more bearable for me! There are tons of places in Toronto that you can go to, such as the newly opened Craft Beer Market, Steamwhistle Brewery, Mill Street Brewery, or the Bier Market to name a few. Just do a quick search on google and you will find a lot more awesome places!

4. Go to a Spa:

Going to a spa in the winter is one of the best feelings. There are tons of beautiful (and expensive) spas in Toronto if you are willing to splurge. This could be a fantastic date idea for a special weekend or anniversary.

Popular Toronto Spas: Elmwood, Body Blitz, Four Seasons, and Sweetgrass.

5. Go to an Arcade Bar:

In the last few years, more and more arcade bars have opened up in Toronto. Arcade bars are great places to go with friends during the winter months. You can have fun, drink, and stay warm all at the same time.

A few arcade bars (that I like and have been to) in Toronto are: Tilt, Get Well, Nightowl, and the Rec Room.

6. Go Dog Sledding:

Okay, so I have never actually done this but c’mon what could be more fun!?! This is on my list of winter activities to do for sure! Keep your eye out on “Groupon” for some cheap deals for this fun excursion.

7. Go to an Escape Room/ Axe Throwing:

These are 2 fun activities that I have tried out before. They are both great date night ideas or activities that you can do with friends on the weekend. You can look up locations that are closest to you!

8. Go on a Weekend Getaway:

I know this isn’t in Toronto but why not leave the city and visit a new town/city. If you want to leave the province but still be able to drive there then Montreal is a beautiful place to visit. If you want to stay close-by, then Blue Mountain is a great option! You can spend the weekend exploring, doing winter activities, and trying out new restaurants.

So those are 8 things that you can do this winter in Toronto. I hope that you enjoyed it. Let me know what you like to do during the winter.

Ps. I made sure not to include “skating” on my list. You’re welcome.
